2/17/25: Goodbye Purrl (Great Lakes Brewing Company's 30th Anniversary Imperial Oyster Stout)
8:13 AM
After this post, the blog will be on hiatus. I'm hoping to get back to it for Chirstmas in July. If you want me to let you know when I return to beer, shoot me an email at johnlikesbeerblog@gmail.com and I'll personally drop you a link when the next post goes up. Thanks for reading and for understanding.
Before going any further, here's a trigger warning for anyone who needs it: This post deals with the death of a pet. Purrl is gone and I'm framing this post around a beer I picked up nearly seven years ago, Great Lakes' Imperial Oyster Stout.
I hope you had a great Christmas!
Unfortunately, my Christmas post is delayed until the 28th. Please look forward to it then. I’ll also have a final 2024 post on the 31st before moving into Dry January non-alcoholic beers in the new year.
Thanks for your patience. I’ll see you in two days!
November really threw me for a loop. I didn't get to finish Maple Month here on the blog, nor did I finish my 50,000 words for NaNoWriMo. I took tasting notes for the final beer I was going to post about and snapped the necessary pictures for it. However, I didn't care for the beer and, because of how hectic the end of the month was for me, I decided not to actually make the whole post.
This weekend I plan on getting to the Christmas beers I have lined up. As such, I thought it best to provide you with all I have of that final maple beer. Without further ado, here are my pictures and unedited/unrefined tasting notes on Timber Ales and The Seed's imperial maple coffee stout, He Who Walks Among Monsters (that's an Untappd link):
Oh, boy! It's time for another update post! Historically, these are things that few of you read and, if you read them, I don't know if you enjoy/want to read more of them. These are posts I mostly write to keep track of myself and to introduce some new things for the blog.
Before going any further, let me say that this post will make a reference or two to my January 2018 Update, so, if you feel so inclined, check that out.
This is a photo of beer kegs used at our wedding. It's to entice you into reading this post. |
So, it's been a bit. Let's talk for a minute. If you're in Europe, you'll see a notice above. You'll also see that the beginning of the notice is cut off. My apologies. I'm sure I could reformat my blog to better display it, but since I have no time these days I thought it'd be best to just include the full notice here:

Probably not, but if you've thought about it, please know that that runs through Google as well.

It's been a bit since I've gotten around to posting an update and, seeing as how there'll be things happening in my life soon that will impact the blog, now seems to be a good time to give you one. In this post I'll be talking about my plans for the blog this year, big events coming up in my life, and my social media management.
Are you all set? Great. Here we go.
You do know I don't own The Simpsons, right? That'd be Fox or Matt Groening or whoever. This is just here as a fun, enticing picture. |
Good evening, everyone. If you're reading this there's probably a good chance that you've noticed something new along the righthand side of the screen. It may have piqued your interest enough that you've actually clicked it.
That's right--it's an ad! I'm talking about it upfront because I know that ads annoy a ton of people (myself included).
