12/9/22: Quick Update Regarding November and the End of Maple Month

1:40 PM

November really threw me for a loop. I didn't get to finish Maple Month here on the blog, nor did I finish my 50,000 words for NaNoWriMo. I took tasting notes for the final beer I was going to post about and snapped the necessary pictures for it. However, I didn't care for the beer and, because of how hectic the end of the month was for me, I decided not to actually make the whole post.

This weekend I plan on getting to the Christmas beers I have lined up. As such, I thought it best to provide you with all I have of that final maple beer. Without further ado, here are my pictures and unedited/unrefined tasting notes on Timber Ales and The Seed's imperial maple coffee stout, He Who Walks Among Monsters (that's an Untappd link):

HE WHO WALKS AMONG MOSNTERS
-Two Purrl whiffs.
-Maple on the nose, followed by a sudden pineapple that gives way to chocolate, caramel, Horchata, and spiced rum. Mild coffee aromatics.
-Flavor is maple and coffee, with some cinnamon spice and a good wallop of booze. The sweetness and cinnamon are a little overpowering (what you'd expect form a pastry stout). There are notes of dark fruit as well (plums and figs) and a tiny bit of orange zestiness. For the alcohol content (12%), I expected a warm boozy smack. Instead, there's some light buzziness that carries through warm in the back of my throat but it's not as heavy as I thought it would be.
-The body's full. It's a big stout and it drinks like one.
-Rating: 6.0/10. Cinnamon's too overpowering. Too pastry stout.

So, as you can see, this wasn't a beer for me, nor was it a beer I wanted Maple Month '22 to go out on. I have one maple beer I didn't get to this year, so I'll cellar it until I can crack into it next year. Here's hoping December's better to me (and to you)!
