It seems as though New Holland stumbled upon a whole den of dragons, each slumbering atop a separate pile of treasure. Only earlier this week did I unleash my post of the series' bourbon barrel aged red ale. Now my attention's focused on the next great slumbering wyrm: Tales of Gold.

New Holland's doing a little something in that state up north. Dragon's Milk has long been a celebration of stout, barrel-aging, and (for the really good stuff) adjuncts. Yet, the brewery's been taking small steps away from that. It started with Solera (which I've yet to try). Dragon's Share was next. (I guess you could say Dragon's Milk White was the actual first step here, but it's still labeled as a stout which is why I'm not officially mentioning it; it's only here, in this typed aside.)

Today, I'm trying the next advance in this stoutless line: Dragon's Milk Crimson Keep. Let's see how this bourbon barrel-aged red ale stands against the rest of the noble lineage.

Today'll be a doozy for me. I have slated to present four different cans in this post. My plan is to drink them over the course of the day, taking a break from choring to sit and focus on each one. Then, when I'm all done, I'll edit this post and get it up for your reading enjoyment.

The good news is that none of the cans I'm drinking aren't particularly heavy. No, they're each downright sessionable. See, I'm doing a hard seltzer variety pack today. But, the pack doesn't hold just any hard seltzer; it holds New Holland's Dragon's Share.

Did you read my post yesterday? If you haven't, I highly recommend you do so. Today's post won't be heavily reliant upon it in any way (you can definitely read this one as a stand-alone) but I might touch upon topics you'll understand more readily if you've read yesterday's.

Now that I've said all of that, let's get to today's beer: New Holland's first Dragon's Milk Reserve of 2021 (21R1 from here on out), featuring peanut butter and cocoa nibs. I love Dragon's Milk and I love Reese's Cups, so this seems like a beer tailor-made for me.

Today I'm taking a break from my COVID-induced Tales from the Cellar series. I know I only have one of those left and, well, that'll just have to be for my next post. Because today--well, today I have something special.


Last weekend I was at my local bottleshop and lucked out. After a week of searching for the latest Dragon's Milk Reserve, I finally found some in the wild. Scotch Barrel-Aged Stout with Marshmallow & Dark Chocolate. Usually I'm not big on beers that feature marshmallow (there's only one s'mores beer I've had that I enjoy), but the Scotch barrel-aging had me intrigued and, come on, it's Dragon's Milk. Why wouldn't I give it a go?

July fourth is Purrl's birthday. She's seven today--which is a big thing. I had originally planned to do a post for her today, a big blowout one featuring a lot of her, but I've decided to bump that back. Instead, this post won't really feature Purrl at all.


Yesterday, Michelle and I said goodbye to our dog, Pip. She'd been Michelle's dog for nearly fifteen years and mine for nearly three. With this post, I'm indulging in a little catharsis by remembering some of the great times we had with her. I'll also be talking about New Holland's new Dragon's Milk Reserve: Maple Oak while doing so--it's a brew I picked up last weekend while we were on a trip with her.
