Happy November (I know this is the second post this month, but it's the first true post)! This is a big month for me. It sits right between my two favorite holidays. It's National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo), a challenge where I (and many other similarly-inclined fools) attempt to write fifty-thousand words of a novel in just a short thirty days. But, most importantly for the blog, it's Maple Month, wherein I explore beers and ciders crafted with my favorite adjunct, maple syrup.
We're starting off strong this month with a barleywine from Jackie O's. Calling back to Southeast Ohio's history, Iron Furnace is an ode to the Hope Furnace, a spot near and dear to my heart. Let's see if I'll hold the resulting beer in equal esteem.

3/22/20: Tales from the Cellar #1--Warped Wing Brewing Company's Grape Creek Must (2018)
1:42 PM
Well, friends. We've been COVID-19'd here in Ohio. Just over an hour ago (at the time of this writing), our governor issued a Stay at Home order. This means that, while you can still actually leave the house to get food, shop, and exercise, heavy restrictions are in place. Effectively, businesses across the state will be closed as of midnight tomorrow.
Fortunately for you, I have a cellar stocked with beer. For all my corona-time posts, I'll be breaking into that cellar and presenting my thoughts on those beers to you. Well, okay, I won't be breaking into the cellar--Michelle'll be doing that. For each of these posts, she'll grab a random beer from my collection for me. Today's beer is from my favorite Dayton, OH brewery: Warped Wing's Grape Creek Must.

Good morning! And, I do mean that as good morning. It's currently ten o'clock as I sit here typing this. Me? Don't sweat a thing--I've been up and at it for hours. I went for a run (I am so damn out of shape). I took a shower. I'm getting ready to take a quick break from this post to drive Michelle to the post office and eat breakfast. Then, I'll be back at it with today's beer.
And, what is today's beer, you may ask? A barleywine. A breakfast barleywine. Crazy, right? I found a can (multiple cans, actually) at my local bottleshop priced at $4 a pop. I couldn't say no. So, without further ado (for you, not for me--I've a bit to do before this next bit), let's find out all about CAMERON'S Brewing's Early Bird Breakfast Barley Wine.

Here's my Thanksgiving Eve post! I'm really excited to break into this bottle of New Holland's Pilgrim's Dole (I've never had it before--this is completely blind) but I need to share this first (if you've read the other post on my blog today or follow me on Twitter/Facebook, you've probably already seen me talk about this. I won't stop just yet):
Net Neutrality is a great, great thing. It allows small businesses to compete in markets that would otherwise swallow them whole. It allows breweries to share information with fans from the brewery's website and all of its social media presences. It lets you stream funny cat videos, read wonderful beer blogs, look up homebrew recipes, connect with friends and loved ones, and so much more.
The FCC could ruin all of this. On December 14th the commission is expected to pass new regulation effectively killing Net Neutrality. This would negatively impact EVERYONE (with, of course, the glaring exceptions of ISP executives). Please reach out to your congressmen. Urge them to step in and kill this effort. The FCC's been trying to pass this shit since 2014. We need to get the message across to them that we will not stand for it. Net Neutrality is good for US citizens of all political beliefs and our society would function radically differently if it goes away.
Phew. Okay. Thanks for reading that. Since I have a platform, I needed to use it to talk about this super big, important thing. Onto the beer!
