This seems like it should be the perfect beer to cap off summer. Sure, right now it's in the upper 70s and cicadas are singing from the trees that surround our house. But, it's cloudy and a few trees in the woods next to my porch are turning orange for the fall. Summer is reaching its natural conclusion.


Now, considering the setting I've so carefully laid plain for you, look at the label of Silver Harbor's Kumbaya: a group of people huddled around a beach bonfire while the sun sets. Do you get what I'm saying? Now, let's crack into this to find out if Kumbaya is really the perfect beer to enjoy for the blog's farewell to summer.

The sun is on its way down as I sit typing this on my porch. It's been a bit of a day. Apart from work, I spent thirty minutes fighting traffic so I could get a specific cider ingredient from a store and another hour fighting traffic to get home. I wasn't sure if I was going to brew or cut the grass this evening. In the end, I did neither.


Instead, I settled on writing this review. There's only one more post separating this from some fall goodness so, I guess for the purposes of the blog, summer's on its way out just like today. Let's celebrate that with another saison: Brewery Vivant's Farm Hand.

I'm happy to have today off. The week's been a little rough for me. Actually, the whole damn summer's been rough for me. But we're just about in mid-August, so the whole thing's coming to an end. I'm already planning ahead to the Oktoberfests and pumpkin ales I'll be drinking in the coming months.


Having said that, summer's not quite over yet. I still have a few summery posts planned, including today's: Old Nation's Dry Honey Saison. This'll be my first Old Nation offering and I'm excited to see how, in practice, the brewery holds up to the hype (I've heard more than a few great things about the brews offered by the place).

It seems like a ton of my posts recently fall into the same "long time coming" category. Part of me wants to apologize for that: When I slate a brew into the "A Beer You'll See Here Soon" spot, I really intend to get to it next or, at the very least, immediately after next.

Another part of me doesn't feel like I should apologize: If I don't get around to the beer in that spot for a while, who really cares? It just means that I've happened into some other cool brews to discuss.


But, here we are now. Finally. The day has come for me to talk about this beer I picked up in April. Let's crack into the can.
