Hey there, everyone! If you follow my Instagram, you'll know that I recently stocked up on wide array of brews to drink while Michelle and I were away on vacation. Well, we were gone for the better part of last week and I managed to drink every single beer I brought into the cabin with me (and a growler from Devil's Kettle). In total, I consumed twelve (!) brews I have not discussed previously on the blog. I want to take a brief moment to rectify that now.


As you'll note, I said brief above. And that's what this post'll be. Brief. Purrl won't be in it. I won't go into details about the breweries. There'll be no memory sharing. I'll post a picture of each beer, a link to the brewery that crafted it, and the thoughts I recorded while drinking it, all in the order they were consumed. Short and sweet.

I love me a porter. Since I first had the style and its mildly roasty, coffee-y, and chocolatey goodness, I knew that it would be my style of beer and that it would be the defining style for my beer tasting and drinking experiences. I also love Halloween, fall, and bonfires. And now I'm about to drink a beer that combines all of that? Sign me up.


But, before we get into the review proper, let's take a moment to admire the can's label design. The redheaded woman described in the can's story takes the focal point on the label and her beehive hairdo becomes skulls at it expands upward. The back showcases a werewolf, a chair in which a man was impaled, and Warped Wing's flying whale silhouetted against a full moon. Here's hoping the porter in the can is as cool as the can itself.

This is a beer with which I have passing familiarity. That is to say that I've seen it on store shelves every autumn for years, but I have never before thought to try it. Yes, part of that is the price--Harpoon's UFO Pumpkin has always been known to me as being among the lower priced pumpkin ales in a sea of other pumpkin ales. When I first started seeing it around I had zero appreciation for the style. No, more than that. I vehemently hated pumpkin beers. But, since then I've been trying more and more of them and some brews in the style rank amongst my all-time favorite beers.


But still, I've never had the impulse to reach out and purchase the stuff. Because of the price. You will note that I also haven't ever had the impulse to reach out and some of the pricier pumpkin beers either. Also because of the price. I've been a middle ground pumpkin brew price guy. But hey, I recently thought, why not try it now? If it's bad I won't buy it again. If it's good, then we're all pretty lucky.

Welcome to October! If you're anything like me, this month's been a long time coming. Summer seemed to go on forever, didn't it? Now that the heat looks like it's finally dissipating here in the 513 I can, at last, drink my favorite autumnal ales without looking like a complete fool.


I was really planning on writing this post on Sunday, you know. But, due the illness that wracked me with pain and left me pretty senseless for 24 hour (and hit my like a ton of bricks Saturday night), that didn't really happen. No biggie, though, because I'm glad to be doing it tonight! I'm chilling on my apartment's balcony on this gorgeous early-autumn evening with my computer open on my lap and an open bottle of Schlafly's Pumpkin Ale by my side, ready to embrace everything this season is. Let me get into it, huh?
