Today's the official start of John Likes Beer's Oktoberfest season extravaganza! Sure, I've been drinking Oktoberfest-style lagers since they first hit the market in July (don't judge me too harshly--I'm always in a rush to get to fall), but I've been a benevolent blogger and kept my Märzen- and festbier-related hijinks away from the site.

Until now! See, the page on the calendar turned overnight and we've landed squarely in September. Munich's big Oktoberfest is two weeks and some change away. I'm not holding back anymore. Let's get my meager celebration started immediately and kick it all off with Platform's Brauraiser.

We've made it to Spooky Finger Puppet Ghost Month! It's October 2nd or, depending on the circles you frequent, the second day of Halloween. Regardless of how you view it, we are now firmly seated in pumpkin ale season, which is one of the great things about fall (actually, all fall seasonals--pumpkin or not--hold special places in my heart) and, in my eyes, is second only to Christmas ale season.


So, what better way to kick off pumpkin ale season on the blog than by drinking a yam beer! Up today, we have Platform Beer Co.'s Yammy Yammy, a sweet potato ale that seems to be a pumpkin beer alternative.

My third night of Ohio Brew Week was a rousing success. I only went to three bars (Devil's Kettle, The Over Hang, and Broney's Alumni Grill) but I managed to try eighteen new-to-me brews (and three others that I'd had previous nights so I didn't post about them on Untappd and won't write about them here).
